Amber Electronics Rooms 1610 & 1611 The $35,000 Pro-Ac Response4 speakers will be on show for the first time in Australia; the Monitor1 which uses a 15-centimetre bass driver and a 25-millimetre, soft-dome, fibre-coated tweeter with a dampened cabinet and a hand-wired crossover; and the range of Counterpoint speakers, designed and made in Australia. Also there will be the Meridian 206; two-part, 600 series CD players; VPIHW 19 and the SME tonearm; and the VPIHW 16.5 record-cleaning machine for treasured vinyl collections.
Amplifiers include the Cary Audio Design ClassA valve amps which range in price from $2500 to $30,000; the Amber 50C integrated amplifier; the S70V Limited Edition mono blocks; and the FF17V pre-amp. Audio Vision Congress Room2 Demonstrations of Australian Laser Disc's laser video disc and related technologies such as karaoke, surround sound and projection television. Australian Audio Designers Association Inc Park Lane Room The association was formed early this year to advance the cause of Australian-designed and manufactured audio equipment.
Several association members will show products which can be assembled to give complete audio systems. Bose Australia Dallas Room Products on show include the Lifestyle music system which replaces many components of conventional equipment. Bose will have an audiovideo presentation of its speaker technology. Carlton Audio Visual Room 1605 Tannoy speakers and Bryston power and pre-amplifiers. In the Tannoy's dual concentric models, the tweeter is positioned within the centre of the bass drive which offers the imaging depth and precision of panel and electrostatic speakers. All speakers are bi-wired.
Electronic Enterprises Vermont & Carolina Rooms This is a buying group with 120 stores in Australia specialising in home theatre. It will be displaying products from JVC, Kenwood, Pioneer, Sharp and TDK. JVC: One of the highlights will be the TD-W308BK cassette deck which has the Enhanced Compu Link control system built in. Another cassette deck from JVC is the monitor capable TD-V562BK, three-head with closed-loop, dual-capstan drive. The new RX-808VBK audiovideo integrating receiver is on display as part of JVC's flagship Digifine series of components and the RX-508VBK receiver/system control centre connects up to five speakers for surround sound and allows a choice of Pro-Logic or Hall Surround by adding extra speakers. Kenwood: The THX home cinema system, developed by Lucasfilms, will be demonstrated by Kenwood.
It uses Dolby Pro-Logic and circuitry that compensates for the effect of reproducing sounds in a smaller room. Kenwood's hi-fi systems and car audio products will also be on display. Pioneer: Rear projection television and a 125-centimetre screen will be highlights of the Pioneer section along with a range of hi-fi and video equipment beginning with mini systems. Demonstrations of surround sound will run throughout the show and the latest laser disc models will be shown. Sharp: Multi-system compatibility is a feature of the 10-centimetre liquid crystal display color television by Sharp. Viewers can watch PAL, SECAM or NTSC broadcasts and video software. Sharp will also have the very small, multi-system LCD video projector with built-in amplifier and speaker capable of a projection size of 76 centimetres to 254 centimetres. TDK: Display of audio and video tape products. Encel Stereo Florida Room Display of hi-fi and audiovisual equipment. Loewe televisions will be teamed with Yamaha D.S.P. surround sound and Polk Audio speakers to demonstrate the latest audiovisual technology. Rotel will unveil a new CD player, amplifier and surround sound receiver. Other components on display include a new range of 300-series electronics from Luxman; turntables, two-box CD players and pre and power amplifiers from Roksan, Counterpoint and B&K. Sonus Faber's Extrema speakers will be shown for the first time in Melbourne.
M&G Hoskins Broadway Room Audio equipment from Audiolab and Monitor Audio. Audiolab's products will include the 8000A integrated amplifier; the 8000DAC digital-to- analog converter; the 8000T am/fm tuner; 8000M mono power amplifiers; and 8000P stereo power amplifiers. Monitor Audio's line-up includes the Studio 30 range; centre speakers and surround speakers for home theatre; and a subwoofer matched to Monitor Audio's smaller speaker models. Leading Edge Audio Madison Room Large screen television, video and laser disc will be used to show off surround sound. Australian speaker manufacturer Krix will feature in this system.
Martin Logan's new electrostatic speaker, the Aerius, and the Vimak digital analog converter will also be demonstrated. Leading Edge will have a range of components from Classe Audio, Copland, Genesis, Sonic Frontiers, Alon, Acoustic Energy, Apogee, Deltec, Gryphon, Aragon, Acurus and others. Metaxas Audio Systems Room 1602 A highlight of the Metaxas room will be Emperor speakers which retail at the high end of the market and the scaled-down version, the Empress, which is about one-quarter of the price. Also on display from Metaxas will be the Phos basic and advanced CD players, Mas Mark2 amplifiers and furniture. Osborn Loudspeakers Room 1604 This small Melbourne company will display products including its three-way Epitome speakers which weigh 65 kilograms and can be matched with an optional bass unit.
New to the range is the Rhapsody which features two 20-centimetre bass drivers and small, 20-centimetre, two- way B2 speakers. P.C. Stereo Boulevarde An independent distributor of compact discs, P.C. Stereo will have the latest releases from Telarc, Linn, Chesky, Reference Recordings, Sheffield Lab, Bandleader and ProArte. Prices start at $10. Secher Audio Rooms 1608 & 1609 Display of Mirage speakers from Canada which range from bookshelf models to "monoliths" with front and rear-firing drivers. Pre and power amplifiers from Benchmark and Contan will be used in demonstrations and CDs played via Music Labs' digital analog converter. Components from Ear Science, Roomtune, Harmonix, QED and Denon will also be displayed. Tasman Audio Vision Room 1603 The Vidikron VPF40HD data/video projector will be on display for the first time in Australia and playing in the reception area of the Home Electronics Show.
Home theatre will be demonstrated every half hour in Tasman's room and includes the Vikikron VPF40 and Marantz Pro-Logic Sound Processor. Trevor Lees Audio Room 1601 Will demonstrate a range of equipment from budget to esoteric items including Musical Fidelity valve CD players and valve digital analog converters from England.
